Applications of Virtual Reality

The “Applications of Virtual Reality” section is thematically organised by application area of desktop VR, each subsection a (for the most part unannotated) listing of example sites and environments.

Readings

Generic academic books on the applications of VR have been few and far between. The books listed below are somewhat dated now, but still offer some interesting and innovative examples of early applications of VR, in culture and the arts, business, and industry.

Vince, J. & Earnshaw, R. (eds.) (1999). Virtual Worlds on the Internet. IEEE/Computer Society.

Loeffler, C.E. & Anderson, T. (eds.) (1994). The Virtual Reality Casebook. New York: Van Nostrand Reinhold.

Chorafas, D.N & Steinmann, H. (1995). Virtual Reality: Practical Applications in Business and Industry. Englewood Cliffs, NJ: Prentice-Hall.
